3 Minute Comp Connections – Preventing Injuries

The purpose of this audio is to talk about injury prevention. It is often said that the best injury is the one that never happens. What we have found at the Institute of WorkComp Professionals, is often times employers do a very good job in creating a safe workplace, of having safety training programs, and also sometimes we find that they have incentive programs built in. Then we also find that they sometimes get frustrated and confused because they are not getting the outcome and they’re not getting the results that they anticipate.

It is the objective of the Institute of WorkComp Professionals, that injury problems start at date-of-hire, not at date-of-injury. We train and certify agents to assist employers in legally, morally, and ethically selecting the right employers that are fit for the job. So that employee is not put into a position where it is not a matter of if, it is only a question of when they’re going to injure themselves or re injure a preexisting condition.

Employers are often confused and befuddled by the whole array of federal and state laws that affect their higher end practices and this confusion causes them not to do the right things. To be paralyzed, or to assume I can’t do that because it’s against the law. The Institute trains agents to help employers on what they, not only can do but is legal to due, but what is essential to do in selecting the right employees so they put people into positions they are fit to perform physically and mentally fit. Because it does not serve anybody’s best interest, not the employer, not the employee or their family, or not the coworkers, to have someone working a position where it is likely or almost certain that they’re going to injure themselves.

So prevention starts in the higher end process. Then we assist employers in putting those steps into place to have effective higher end practices that we reduce injuries and reduce the duration of those injuries.
